What does it mean that my skincare is vegan?

If you thought veganism was just a fad diet, I have news for you: The plant-based lifestyle is here to stay. Not only are supermarket aisles filled with more vegan food options than ever, but beauty stores are also stocked with more makeup, hair, and skincare products bearing the seal of approval of bunnies and other adorable animals that signify their animal-friendliness. This isn't a trend. It's a shift in collective consciousness that's finally making its way into the beauty and skincare space.
Now what you need to know is that all vegan products are, consequently, cruelty-free , however, not all cruelty-free brands have vegan products.
The difference is that when a skincare product is vegan, it means it doesn't contain any ingredients of animal origin or derivatives, such as honey, wax, snail slime, collagen, animal oils and fats like butter, glycerin, urea, retinol, biotin, to name the most popular.
FUN FACT! Almost all of the ingredients mentioned above already have plant and/or mineral counterparts, meaning they've developed ingredients with the same results, so a vegan product doesn't necessarily mean it's less effective than a non-vegan one. Long live science!
At Skin and Tonic, you can find a wide variety of certified vegan skincare products, such as the ones below:

What we're trying to say is that if you don't follow a vegan diet, it doesn't mean you can't buy vegan skincare products. Ultimately, we're all doing our best to be more conscious consumers, and not everything has to be perfect. What counts is the intention. The decision to buy or consume the type of products we want is 100% ours.
